About Andy Wright
Life can take you down a twisting path. My “artist path” came about rather suddenly towards the end of my 40-year corporate finance career.
My artwork was born out of two primary life experiences - surfing and cancer. Surfing inserts a person into some of the most pristine locations on earth. My 50 plus years of surfing worldwide is the bedrock of my work as an artist. The second is my ongoing battle with Leukemia. I had a prolonged and difficult recovery from a bone marrow transplant in 2019 & could not surf for almost two years. The treatments left me physically unable to do just about anything. As I was recovering for 2 months in the hospital, I started sketching waves in various settings. I dug through my large collection of surf magazine photos and images on the internet. The images inspired visions in my mind that I decided to try and paint. Since I had lots of down time, I began experimenting with paint, gloss mediums, brushes, various substrates, etc. As I painted, my learning expanded. I gradually developed the skills, techniques, & “know how” that enabled me to achieve the artwork I wanted to create. My artwork is the direct result of thousands of hours of thinking, planning, & painting. Most importantly, none of this could have happened without the unending support from my wife, family, and close friends for which I am forever grateful.
My Goal is to insert the viewer into pristine surfing locations as if they were there themselves. I want them to feel the incredible energy these special natural environments provide. I am retired now and will use this opportunity to share my creative abilities and artwork with everyone.
Enjoy!
